Marco Gobbi (b. 1985, IT) studied Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and since 2008 has been working with sculpture and installation. In 2013 he was a resident at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa with the collective ‘How We Dwell (Make your own Residency)’. In 2015/16 he was a resident at Van Eyck Academie, Maastricht.

His practice evinces his interest in the analysis of stories and objects, and the gaps found in those stories; the work, then, is used as a mean to fill those gaps. Through the uncovering of the balance between the components of an artwork, a more subjective vision of translation and sensation in poetic forms is proposed. The artist sees objects as potential maps, whose legends contain new and unexplored directions and possibilities.

The practice in the studio and practice of the world are moments that remain distinct , but that influence incessantly . A relationship that is also the one between the artist and the definition of a space for the image . This manifests itself in Simon Laureyns works. The artist maps the places for poster advertising in the city of Ghent , where he lives , by controlling the recycling of posters . Once they are layered enough, Laureyns waiting for the rain to disconnect a single mass, roll them and take them in the studio. In the closed materials are compounds, mounted on canvas and then stretched in a frame. The exposure of the back , made ​​of glue on the billboard blue , as if it were a complaint made ​​by a silent rebellion against the condensing uniqueness of advertising images, opens a space open and manifold. Here the perception meets a vent field of its mnemonic potential , visual and imaginative.

Martini breaks down the gestural continuity of the creative act in the painting, experimenting different ways, times and materials in his multi-phase works. His paintings are like stratified visual fields, deeply marked by the perseverant need to deny a planned result, strongly decked to find the unexpected potential of complex, precarious and unique material conditions. His research celebrates many substantial features of painting but makes symbolic and narrative attention become redundant.
Many and different procedures are to be found on the space described on the frame. Through the artist’s action, the colorful matter creates various transformations because of its physical and chemical features. Simultaneously, work time and space are somehow recorded on the artwork, whose almost absorbent nature can potentially be sediment of bordering matters and gestures.
The ludic rawness of this inclination intensifies the character of the compositional elements. The weight of the canvas could spread out the color, as much as gravity could play a significant role in creating the shapes in which the matters solidifies. Fleeing from what is said and repeated, the painter himself takes somehow distances from his work and becomes an instrument of it. Like a film director who leaves the supervision of the movie to become an operator and decides to manage the operations when a new amount of arbitrariness is needed in order to proceed.  Tobias Hoffknecht‘s working process begins on paper. His drawings, the sculptural basis of his works, are subjected to a substractive process. By increasingly reducing the preliminary sketch, he creates a minimalist spatial layout, which then takes on the form of an installation. The combination of installation and sculpture emerges out of a conceptual analysis of sculptural activity within the drawing, with the intention of breaking down and breaking through the respective space. Spatial references within the exhibition situation are witness to this symbiosis. Hoffknecht creates volumes through surfaces. Surfaces, which defer to the space, divide, usurp and break it. As a result, the space is created anew. Surfaces form the main components of the works in the exhibition “Rehearsal”, which occupy the space with their clear and highly reduced formal language.

Tobias Hoffknecht (Bochum, 1987) lives and works in Koln. Born in Oberhauser, 1982. Lives and works in Düsseldorf.  Painting degree at Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (prof. Albert Oehlen). Max Frintrop’s works are characterised by an investigation of and an ironic play with the concept of space. He thus presents a recurrent form, which he reduces and, at the same time, in terms of geometry, pushes to the extreme. This act of pushing forms to the extreme is intensified by an expressive painterly gesture and a dynamic treatment of colour. Ink is applied to the canvas in streaks and splatters, highly diluted or opaque. In some cases, one has the impression that the monochrome coloration dominates the entire pictorial space; at other times, it seems as though the canvas has directed the colour into particular paths. The result is a declination of colours and forms, which appears precisely calculated and at the same time spontaneous.  (lena Ipsen text)

Born in Bolzano, 1983, lives and works in Milan, I. Painting Degree at Brera Accademy. Milan I.

My research situates in actions and ways of thinking, instituting forms of tension within method, between conventional objectivity of referent and original models of presentation and formalization of the Real. The resulting work proceeds through points of balance and test, oscillating to opposite extremes of thought and systems. For instance, in A Form of History the complex reconfigurations of Europe between 1861 and 2011 are subject to a political re-mapping aimed to convey a spectrum of values in a single aesthetic form with the clarity and simplicity of a visual intuition.

Stephanie Stein (b. 1972, Kiel, Germany) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Akademie, Amsterdam, at the Cooper Union School for the Advanced Science and Art, New York, USA and Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Prof. Rosemarie Trockel). Stephanie Stein’s graphical works appear to be pure definitions of interspaces. Her filigree, abstract minimalist works are precisely coordinated with spatial parameters such as light and shadow, dimension and motion. With this, Stein succeeds, with reduced interventions, in altering the perception of an entire spatial structure.

His practice often takes shape in a polymorphic manner. David’s approach consists of repositioning and reinterpreting shape and items of the everyday life (apple,frame), consumer society (the tuning) or masterpieces of oeuvre Italian painting (Pala del Montefeltro and Polittico di Sant’Antonio by Piero della Francesca). His polymorphs often work against or are subjected to one another. In this sense, his works are permeable, connected and inclined towards an ideal, the vacuum of the original act that leads to reverse the meaning. Inspired by Jazz music which can be similar to a musical game, he emulates its flexibility and liquidity.

Nazzarena Poli Maramotti is a genuine painter: her analysis explores the traditional subjects consistently – portrait, landscape and still life –and investigates the possible relations between shape and color, tone and light, matter’s density and lightness, experimented in the painting practice. Working with recurring subjects frees her from being worried about the content, allowing her to concentrate on the painting.
Earlier in her career, around the years 2000, her research was on shape and portrait mainly, looking at historic and modern tradition, from the German Expressionism till Soutine, Bacon and Baselitz. From the beginning of her career she is intolerant towards academic rigidity of mimesis: she sets herself apart from reality; physical features are partially deleted and become the excuse for an extraordinary and new pictorial sensibility where action, matter and color merge in a tangled combination. The artist overcomes the specific individual forming universal shapes that aim to grow and include the landscape, another field of pure painting action.
